About Us

The HCDC exists because people are in need of help. We seem to live in a world that pretends not to see the homeless, the hungry and the forgotten. The HCDC seeks to address this denial and remove the barriers from our hearts that allow us to ignore those most in need in our society. Our Executive Director, Dr. Lisa Tait, has worked with community initiatives ranging from decreasing the education gap, eliminating the commercial sexual exploitation of children, planting community gardens to end "Food Deserts" in the inner city, mental health access for children, youth and their families, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), career development & customer service training, driver education and improvement, and much more.

The mission of the Harambee Community Development Corporation, a 501(c) (3) charitable organization, is to positively impact Atlanta and the surrounding community by empowering its residents economically, socially, and holistically. We further endeavor to engage in activities designed to stabilize and promote community-wide interest and concern for the problems that plague the residents of Metropolitan Atlanta in the areas of mental health, education, commercial sexual exploitation, driver safety, hunger and homelessness.

Services shall include but not be limited to providing: prevention and educational opportunities, beautifying local rivers, roads and streams, referrals for in and out-patient mental health treatment, social service support for at-risk children and youth development programs that sustain our communities.  By providing such services, we hope to significantly reduce social ills such as sex trafficking, hunger and homeless.  Over the past ten years we have partnered with such organizations as the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Woodruffs Arts Center, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, The King Center, Catholic Charities, local and national churches, Tait Counseling & Consulting, The DeKalb Workforce, The City of Atlanta, Drive Safe Georgia, the Juvenile Court System, DeKalb County School System, The Ryan Cameron Foundation, the Yellow River Trash Bash and many more.
